I got dreadlocks!

Hello friends,

Though I’m busy at work over on my mental health blog, I still love this space to connect with other bloggers and to let my hair down in a less formal setting.

Speaking of hair, I GOT DREADLOCKS!

I’ve always been Plain Jane when it comes to my hair. Last year I began to experiment and started to grow a fro-hawk and got my first ever fade.

Look at that lush crown!

Towards the end of last year, I began toying with the idea of switching it up. I thought a lot about dreadlocks but my wife and others had concerns about it not looking professional.

So I tried sponge curls. For those of you don’t know, sponge curls are made using a special sponge that semi-locks your hair.

Sponge curls on fleek! Do the kids still say “fleek”?

Though I loved this hybrid between a fro and locs, I still felt it in my heart that I should go all-in and begin the loc process.

I’ve known of a few therapists with locs and decided to do what I wanted rather than worrying about everyone else’s perception.

On Thursday, I took the plunge!

The shrinkage is real!

Introducing, starter locs! I got an appointment with a loctician and had my fro set into these curly tendrils. Over time, my hair will continue to grow, the hair will be retwisted, and it will begin to lock on its own.

I’m super excited that I switched it up and I’m pumped for the evolution that my hair will take. I definitely wanna dye a loc green in about a year when they’re longer and more mature. I love green and think it would be cool to have an accent loc hahaha!

Well, that’s all I have for now. I’m no beauty/natural hair blogger by any stretch of the imagination; however, I think a lot of positivity comes from people of color embracing their natural hair and taking risks.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done with your hair? Let’s chat in the comments!

Each post features a music video that is usually random and seldom relates to the aforementioned topic. I love music and share it as a form of expression. Enjoy!
